Donna Lawrence
ArtistI am a Queensland Artist with fine art qualifications including a Masters of Visual Art from Monash University, Victoria. My work concerns themes such as disadvantage, stigma, celebration, mental health and celebration. I use mixed media to create imagery that is conceptual, political, informative and depicts a lived experience of Bipolar disorder. My work challenges usual roles of Artist vs. audience by inviting the viewer to be emotionally bound through experimentation with some of the picture surfaces, imbedding their psyche with an emotional connectedness. I believe art can be challenging, evocative and political whilst being aesthetically pleasing.
About their work
My work is continually evolving whilst still being politically motivated and visually experimental; connections lie with the decorative work of Gustav Klimt, DaVinci’s drawings and political ideology of Barbara Kruger.
